Mabinay Secondary conducts INSET on Enhancing Teachers’ KSA in the Art of Effective Questioning

After a semester of hard work in school, Mabinay Secondary conducts an In-Service Training on Enhancing Teachers’ KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Aptitude) in the Art of Effective Questioning to 135 classroom teachers of the 13 Secondary Schools of the Municipality facilitated by the 13 secondary school administrators during the semestral break last October 26-28, 2011 held at the town’s ABC Hall and Mabinay National High School. This is a formal face-to-face program which helps teachers improve their method of questioning and acquire more and better techniques of asking higher order questions in their classes. Objectives of the said training are as follows: 1) Appraise one’s performance in the utilization of the different levels of questioning; 2) Formulate sample questions of different levels based on a certain lesson; 3) Prepare a concrete plan of action to apply what has been learned and relearned; 4) Acquire updated strategies, techniques and activities to develop HOTS; 5) Simulate an actual teaching-learning activity to show the Art of Effective Questioning; 6) Conduct actual demo-teaching on the techniques of effective questioning; 7) Demonstrate full cooperation with fax and pax; and 8) Appreciate the value of developing HOTS. Mrs. Lucila B. Besario (principal of Dahile High School) discussed the topic on Personal Appraisal on the Use of the Different Levels of Questioning. Mrs. Vilma S. Sumagaysay (principal of Inapoy High School) talked about Creating an Accepting Atmosphere with Mrs. Esther P. Tayad (principal of Pantao Nat’l High School) and Mrs. Besario. Mrs. Josie G. Estrella (principal of Tara Prov’l Community High School) and Mrs. Rosemarie S. Bohol (TIC of Mabinay Science High School) deliberated on the Ways to Ask Thinking Skill-Builders Questions; The Headquarter Principal and team leader Mrs. Lucrecia C. Nicolas and Mrs. Liz Ritchelle A. Baldomar (TIC of Mayaposi High School)were tasked to speak and share some insights about Developing Learners’ HOTS or High Order Thinking Skills and the Techniques of Effective Questioning; Mr. Primitivo Torres (TIC of Canggohob High School) was assigned to lecture on Formulating Questions in the different Levels based on a specific Lesson; Mr. Zacarias L. Barona (TIC of Bagtic National High School)and Mr. Diofel Cacas (TIC of Campanun-an High School) were assigned to discuss matters concerning Sample Activities or Ways of Getting Students to ask Questions. Mr. Joey Bahandi (TIC of Cansal-ing High School) was unfortunately not feeling well those days but managed to help the facilitating team in some ways. Ms. Leticia Te-ad (TIC of Paniabonan High School) and Mrs.Edna Mediavilla (TIC of Barras High School) were assigned to monitor the attendance of the teacher-participants. On the last day of the INSET, 5 mentors from the different secondary schools were chosen to do an actual demo teaching on the Teachers’ Art of Questioning with actual students of MNHS by subject area, to wit; Mr. Rico C. Tañesa of MNHS-demonstration teacher in Filipino 1; Ma’am Evely M. Cacaldo of MNHS-(English II); Mr. Dariel M. Cacaldo of Pantao NHS- (Math III); Cheryl Mae A. Hongcuay of MNHS (Science IV); and Mr. Genel Babor of Bagtic NHS (Araling Panlipunan III). For the first time, the Special Education Fund of the Local School Board sponsored the budget for 1 meal (lunch) for the fax and pax daily within 3 days (from Oct. 26-28, 2011). The meals including the training materials cost Php 72,087.40. The three-day INSET ended in the afternoon of Oct.28, 2011, with hopes that teacher-participants will realize that critical and creative thinking skills are not only developed through the questions they are asking but also in the opportunities/activities they provide that allow students to ask questions of different levels. Teachers should apply what they’ve learned to their classes so that students may learn better than the previous way of teaching.

Mabinay holds Kampo 2K

The municipality of Mabinay held a municipal-wide smokefree camp, the Kampo Kabataang Kabayani last September 30 – October 2, 2011 at the NORSU-Mabinay Campus with the theme: “STRENGTHENING OUR COMMITMENT FOR A SMOKEFREE COMMUNITY”.

The three-day camp was participated by SSG officers and advisers, school classroom and club officers, SK officials and political leaders. The event was spear-headed by SB Cris Emperado, Hon. SB Dc. Uy, Hon. Federated SK President Felix A. Ocay, Hon. Prof. Richard B. Osumu (Kampo 2K Director), Hon. Prof. Cesar Estrope (Ka’Bayani Convener).

One of the highlights of the camp was the creation of the Mabinay Youth Coalition. Two of the MNHS students, Ellyn Fhie Mayagma and Reyshiel N. Saldo are members of the coalition which is formed to create synergy of actions among the different youth organizations of the municipality. The coalition presented their Plan of Actions to the board of stakeholders on the third day of the camp.

The youth leaders engaged in activities like the BUGAHANAY, a youth summit wherein SB Cris Emperado discussed issues regarding smoking including the municipal ordinance no. 08. Another activity is the Larong Pinoy and the formation o a fivelayer pyramid which add up to the fun felt by the participants.

3 Ripple scribes bag major awards in division gab; Qualifiers to the Reg’l confab

Three campus-journalists from “The Ripple”, the official school publication of Mabinay National High School grabbed major awards from the Division Schools Press Conference held at Negros Oriental High School, Dumaguete City on October 20-22, 2011 with the theme “Let’s love Mother Earth”. Elementary and secondary schools from the province of Negros Oriental gathered for the competition.

Reyshiel N. Saldo won the 1st place in News writing (English), Dhyssa-Wency S. Sumagaysay was declared 2nd in Feature writing (English) and John Edward G. Banong grabbed the 3rd place in Sports writing (Filipino). Other student-writers were Lenny Rose Señeres, Yrnel Entierro, Nancy Sunshine S. Esplaguera, Annabelle R. Empenado, Esarvy D. Romano, Sheilah Marie A. Cacas, Japhet Narciso, Krugger A. Villanueva, Dexie Faye P. Mondia, and Xandra Joy Estrella. Together with them were the school paper advisers and coaches Mrs. Ruth H. Gesulgon and Ms. Evely M. Cacaldo.

The three Ripple top writers, Saldo, Sumagaysay and Banong, will represent MNHS and the Division of Negros Oriental in the Regional School Press Conference to be held at Dumaguete City on December 6-9, 2011. Kudos, Ripple Scribes!

MUNICIPAL STREETS WIDENED

                             The construction of the left and right widening of the municipal streets has been started last October, 2011. This widening will cover 700 meters starting in front of the municipal hall and will end at Cadalzo Street. A Php 4 million budget is allotted for this project. The HLJ construction will finish the said project within 120 calendar days. 

MABINAY ACQUIRES TOURIST BUS

                 Through the initiative of the LGU of Mabinay, under the administration of our Municipal Mayor Hon. Ernie “Jango” T. Uy, the municipality was able to acquire a 45 seaters, air conditioned, with brand new battery and diesel engine tourist bus which cost Php 1.2 million from the lone bidder, Vallacar Transit Inc., awarded last October 20, 2011. The amount is taken from the general fund of the town.

                The said bus will be used to transport government personnel for an official business, educational tour, athletes and delegation of the municipality and more.
                
Guidelines for the request and use of the bus will soon be available.

MABINAY CELEBRATES 1ST SMOKEFREE ANNIVERSARY

                The municipality of Mabinay celebrated its first year anniversary of being a smokefree community lastOctober 13, 2011. The whole day celebration was participated by the different sectors of the municipality LGU officials, students and Mabinayanons. The theme of the said celebration was “Strengthening our Commitment for a Smokefree Community.”

                The event started with the Pukaw, a smokefree Reveille, 4:00am of October 13. This was followed by the HIBANAY (HImamat sa mga BAnay sa MabiNAY), a convergence parade which started at the Mabinay Spring and ended at the municipality landmark where a program was held. For tarpaulins with 10,000 signatures of Mabinayanons supporting a smokefree community was uncovered . A series of congratulatory messages were delivered during the program. Another activity was the PASUNDING (PASUNg PaduDING), a creative drill. Different elementary and secondary school bands of the municipality participated in the competition. These were Lumbangan Elementary School, Abis Elementary School, Inapoy Elementary School, Mabinay Central School, Inapoy High School, Paniabonan High School, Tara Provincial Community High School, Bagtic National High School, Santo Niño High School, and Mabinay National High School. After the presentation of different contingents, Mabinay Central School band emerged as the best band presenter in the elementary level while Tara Provincial Community High School was declared the champion in the fancy drill contest, secondary level. The winners received band instruments which was sponsored by the LGU.
